Life after Star Search win blows away Callum

Life’s been busy for Callum Hicks since he won the instrumental category in last year’s Powercor Star Search.
The tuba player has just returned from 10 days in Hawaii where he performed in Pacific Basin Music Festival at Waikiki as part of the Christian College’s senior wind band.
The judges in Hawaii were so impressed they gave the band a gold award.
Callum was thrilled to meet other bands from around the world, including Sing-apore, Japan and America.
“It was great to be celebrating music in all its forms with them,” he said.
Organisers of this year’s Star Search are calling for entries for the talent quest, culminating in a grand final at Geelong’s waterfront Costa Hall on May 29.
Entry forms, heats and grand final tickets are available at www.starsearch.net.au.
Organisers said anyone with questions about Star Search should email them to powercorstarsearch@gmail.com.
Vocalists and instrumentalists compete for a prize pool in each category of $1800, with the winner taking home $1000.
Tickets cost $20 for individuals, $15 for concession card holders or $55 for a family.
Phone Geelong Perform-ing Arts Centre for tickets on 5225 1200 or the Rotary Club of Highton on 5229 1626.
The Independent is a sponsor of Star Search.
