Ground war to flare at Avalon airshow

By  NOEL MURPHY

TRENCH warfare, Panzer tanks, Great War weaponry, Light Horse artefacts and a field hospital will be a special feature at next year’s Avalon airshow.
Spectacular battlefield re-enactments from World Wars I and II as well as the Vietnam and Gulf wars will be staged to mark the centenary of the Anzacs.
The Great War battle would feature trenches, period weaponry, heavy equipment and soldiers in authentic uniforms, an airshow spokesperson said.
Australian Great War Association would stage the re-enactment, coupled with a Light Horse Museum display of weapons, artillery, memorabilia and a fully decked-out military hospital.
Geelong Military Re-Enactment Group would re-create Greece’s 1941 Battle of Brellos, complete with German and Australian artillery, heavy vehicles and two Panzer tanks.

A re-creation of Greece’s 1941 Battle of Brellos will be conducted by the Geelong Military Re-enactment Group, complete with German and Australian artillery, heavy vehicles and two German Panzer tanks.

The Commemorative History Society will provide equipment and uniformed troops for a living display on war in the Pacific. The Victorian Military Vehicle Corps will supply a vast array of wartime machinery including tanks and heavy armour.

Not all the Airshow 2015 action will be on the ground, of course.

The show will feature an extensive array of military aircraft from the birth of Anzac to the present.,

A series of flying displays will pay tribute to the heroes of the sky in the centenary year of the ill-fated Gallipoli landings.

The Australian International Airshow will be held at Avalon Airport from 27 February to 1 March.
