GEELONG police are operating a mobile station at this year’s Royal Geelong Show to weed out unruly behaviour, according to an officer.
Senior Constable Susan Macardy said 45 uniformed police would ensure the four-day event remained family friendly.
“Youths in the past have caused trouble, particularly on Saturday night, and we won’t tolerate that,” she said.
“Police will also assist show staff on ensuring no alcohol comes in and to ensure there are no intoxicated youths within the show grounds.
“We’ll ensure public order and control any unruly behaviour.”
Sen Const Macardy said the mobile station would operate at all times during the show.
She encouraged show patrons to approach officers with any problems.
Police would also provide wristbands for children in case they lost their parents, she said.
“This year for the first time parents can pop their mobile number on the wrist band so if their children are lost it’s easier to reunite them. It’s been successful at similar events like the Melbourne Show and Avalon air show.
“We hope to have similar success.”
