Exhibition to hit the wall with art

MICHELLE HERBISON
POINT Lonsdale’s Katherine Thyer never considered herself an artist.
The retired primary school teacher realised she wanted to learn to draw only a couple of years ago when she looked up at a painted cafe roof.
“I thought ‘Wouldn’t that be fun?’ but I couldn’t actually draw,” she said.
Mrs Thyer began art classes at Queenscliff Neighbourhood House under Deb Brearley who helped unleash her talents. Now she’s running an exhibition of linocuts inspired by a retaining wall at Point Lonsdale front beach.
An old moonah growing through the wall inspired her first artworks.
“It looks like they built the wall around the tree to save it, which I thought was lovely.”
Mrs Thyer hoped her prints would encourage others to take a closer look at the wall.
The exhibition runs until November 24 at Queenscliff Neighbourhood House.
