Geelong’s novel fundraiser books in 25,000 titles

A READERS’ bonanza of more than 25,000 books will be a good-luck story for a worthy cause in Geelong next week.
Rotary club members have gathered the collection for Victoria’s largest annual book fair, with each title to sell for just $1.
Proceeds from the Rotary Club of Geelong event fund various projects and community organisations, with Christ Church’s meals for the needy, Barwon Health Foundation and Geelong Kokoda Youth Program among recent recipients.
Club president Jim Marandaz said the big haul of books had kept members busy.
“The club members have spent the last few months collecting frantically from various sources, including ex-library books, persons downsizing, deceased estates and others just wanting to recycle their books,” he said.
But patrons of the 10th annual Geelong Book Fair would appreciate the hard work, Mr Marandaz said, with all the stock also sorted into categories.
“The bargains are exceptional and you can go home with an armful of books for little cost.”
The book fair will be at Geelong West Town Hall from next Friday until 23 August.
