The Salvation Army desperately needs funds to support the thousands of Geelong residents hit by the global financial crisis.
Geelong residents will have an opportunity to dig deep for the charity during an annual Red Shield Appeal door knock this month. Red Shield Appeal organiser major Brad Halse said underemployment, housing pressure and an increase in the cost of living had hit the community hard this year.
“Every year we see all kinds of new people coming to the Salvos for assistance,” Mr Halse said.
“When someone loses a job or gets into terrible financial trouble, the impact just can’t be measured.”
“Things are not getting any easier and the demand on our services is still absolutely huge.”
Mr Halse encouraged residents to donate to the Red Shield Appeal on May 29 and 30.
“People can donate anytime or register to be a volunteer by calling 13 SALVOS (13 72 58),” he said.
