Judges have selected Star Search finalists

Geelong’s best young performers have showcased their talents at the Powercor Star Search talent quest auditions over the past two weeks.
The judges had a tough job to select 15 rising stars from the vocalists and instrumentalists who auditioned for the right to perform at the grand final.
According to judge Malcolm John, this year’s standard was very high.
“We were really impressed with the calibre of all the performers and look forward to seeing the grand finalists on stage at Costa Hall,” he said.
Matthew Flinders year 12 student Cassandra Whittem is among those who’ll be on centre stage at the grand final.
A vocalist and pianist, Cassandra is aiming high and hopes to do further study in performance theatre and even Broadway. Cassandra comes from a musical family where everyone sings or plays an instrument.
“My family sings all the time. It defines who we are. We even sing when we’re washing the dishes!” she said.
The other grand final vocalists are: David Homewood, Darcy Carroll, Anna Ballinger, Laura Baxter, Jessica Costa and Eleanore Gardner.
The grand final instrumentalists are: Cameron Smith, Adrian King, Clare Duck, Jamie Parker, Eda Kaynak, Christian College VCE Brass Band, The Pick Ups and The Sax Quartet.
The Powercor Star Search grand final will be held at 7.30pm on Saturday May 29 at Deakin University’s Costa Hall.
Grand final tickets need to be booked soon as seats are selling fast. Tickets are available from Rotary on 5229 1626 or GPAC on 5225 1200: $20, Concession: $15. Family: $55.
The Independent supports this community service event organised by the Rotary Club of Highton.
