Ford’s big day set for February

Alex de Vos
Millions of dollars worth of cars will on display next month at Geelong’s 19th annual All Ford Day.
Event chairman Graeme Munro expected thousands of motoring enthusiasts to flock to Deakin University’s Waurn Ponds Campus on February 21 to celebrate Australia’s largest display of Ford cars.
“It’s an enormous event – there’ll be more than 1000 Ford cars on display as well as trade displays and Formula Ford drivers,” Mr Munro said.
He said the event would also feature a “special display” of Ford Falcons to commemorate the car’s 50th anniversary.
“This year is the 50th anniversary of the Ford Falcon so we’ll be displaying 27 different variations of the vehicle,” he said.
Mr Munro said the Kiwanis Club of Geelong’s All Ford Day was also designed to raise much needed funds to support local charities.
“Over the 19 years we’ve raised half a million dollars for community projects and charities,” he said.
“Last year we donated more than $11,000 to the Bush Fire Appeal and the Royal Children’s Hospital.”
He hoped this year’s event would raise $30,000.
“We don’t have a focus at the moment, but we use the to fund most of our projects throughout the year,” he said.
“We support a number of projects including Noah’s Ark Toy Library, the Salvation Army and Care Australia.”
The event at Deakin University’s sports oval kicks off at 10am.
“It’s always a lot of fun,” Mr Munro said.
“If you’re into cars and especially Ford cars it’s the place to be.”
