GEELONG is expecting forward Mitch Clark to play despite suffering a mental health relapse after last Friday’s win against Collingwood.
Clark was taken aside by Scott after the game and did not participate in the club song, later taking to social media explaining that his battle with depression was on-going.
“Mitch is keen to play, but it’s not guaranteed,” Scott said at his weekly media conference today.
“Our priority is his welfare. But he wants to play so that’s a good sign.”
Scott said Clark and the club had been encouraged by the support of the football world.
“It’s been overwhelming. Mitch is really proud of fact that in some small way he can help with the understanding of these sorts of conditions.
“Mental health touches us all. Slowly the stigma that’s been associated with mental health for way too long is being unwound.
“It’s an uncomfortable and undesirable position for all of us but hopefully there’s a small positive from it.”
In other selection news, captain courageous Joel Selwood wore a glove at training to cover his sore hand.
Scott said he was unsure if Selwood would wear the glove during the Saturday night game against Sydney at ANZ Stadium.
He said defender Andrew Mackie and midfielder Mathew Stokes were likely to be available this week after lengthy injury layoffs.
