Talented trio vie for place in Star Search grand final

Hayley Driden, Lilli Campbell and Olivia Brooks-Meagher set their sights high this week when they auditioned for Powercor Star Search.
The year 11 Christian College students, who perform Latin, jazz and contemporary ballads as an ensemble, were keen to impress the adjudicators and win a place in the grand final.
An impressive performance will earn the threesome a place in the Star Search grand final at Geelong’s waterfront Costa Hall on May 29.
The girls recently returned from 10 days in Hawaii where they performed and attended workshops at a Pacific Basin Music Festival.
Olivia said their music teacher encouraged them to get as much performance experience as possible leading up to their VCE exams.
“At this stage it’s a hobby for us as we get ready for VCE exams but it’s always fantastic experience to perform in front of an audience and adjudicators,” she said.
Aspiring instrumentalists still have a chance to compete in Star Search, with auditions next Tuesday at St Lukes Church, Barrabool Road, Highton.
Organisers urged instrumentalists to lodge entries online as soon as possible at www.starsearch.net.au or by emailing powercor starsearch @gmail.com.
Star Search’s first prize in each category is $1000. Second and third place earns $500 and $300 respectively.
Star Search also has prizes for reaching the grand final, promising performers and the overall winner in each category.
Tickets are available from Rotary by phoning 5229 1626 or Geelong Performing Arts Centre on 5225 1200.
Tickets cost $20 for adults, $15 for concession card holder and $55 for a family.
The Independent is a sponsor of Rotary Club of Highton’s Star Search.
