Rob’s back on course after bypass

BETTER NOW: Rob Gaylard's looking forward to his annual MC duties at the McKellar Centre Charity Golf Day.

RACING identity Rob Gaylard picked a quaddy a few months ago – but it wasn’t of the equine variety.
The keen bike rider and golfer underwent open heart surgery and a quadruple bypass.
The experience only heightened his resolve to be fighting fit for his annual gig hosting the McKellar Centre Charity Golf Day.
“I got the all-clear from the doctors last Thursday and on Thursday night I went out to the backyard and swung a golf club,” the long-standing MC laughingly confided.
“I don’t think that’s what the medicos had in mind when they gave me the all-clear but after all these months you won’t believe how much I’m looking forward to getting out on the golf course.
“Just the chance to get out and get some fresh air is unbelievable. It certainly makes it a lot more real because I’ve been through it,” he said.
“Knowing the McKellar Centre facilities and what’s involved in rehabilitation and the work the staff do there, they’re unsung heroes, I reckon.
“What they do for the community is enormous, so it doesn’t take much for us to get a team together and have a fun day to raise some funds and awareness.”
The Ambrose-format golf day will be at 13th Beach golf course on 21 March.
Entries, costing $155 a head, are available by phoning Barwon Health Foundation on 4215 8906 or emailing nikki.lenaghan@barwonhealth.cog.au.
