For the first time in 15 years, the original line-up of hit Aussie band Taxiride is back with shows already booked.
Frontman Jason Singh said announcing the reunion earned the biggest response he had ever received on social media.
Singh said he had “missed the sound” of Taxiride.
“We haven’t kicked back in a long time.”
The rock band scored two consecutive number-one platinum-selling albums, an ARIA award for breakthrough artist single as well as seven top-40 hits including Get Set and Everywhere You Go.
But before stepping out with Taxiride again, Singh will return with a three-piece backing band at next month’s Motor City Music Festival.
In a change from last year’s set, Singh said this year’s show would feature a greater acoustic emphasis although it would still be “quite a big sound”.
With 26 gigs completed last month, including the Australian Open, Singh said he expected to have another big year after playing 244 shows across Australia with his backing band last year.
“We’re on track to do the same amount,” he said.
“We’re one of the hardest working bands in the country.”
Singh’s solo album, Humannequin, received high praise and airplay for songs such as Easy on TV and film production including Channel 7’s Million Dollar Minute and Australian movie John Doe: Vigilante, directed by Geelong West’s Kelly Dolen.
Sing said he was also in talks with various dance producers after tracks The World As You Know It and One World reached the top 10 on the ARIA Club charts.
“I like dance music. I like all different types,” he said.
“I was raised on Prince – he’s my idol.”
Singh also planned to release in June another project, The Voices, with Mark Gable, lead singer from Aussie rock band The Choirboys.
Singh will appear on the Sunday of the Motor City Music Festival on the March Labour Day long weekend.
