Two arrested over worst child sex pornography

Alex de Vos
Police have arrested two Geelong men for possessing child pornography that federal investigators described as “among the worst” they had seen.
Australian Federal Police arrested a 40-year-old, from Bell Park, and 32-year-old Lovely Banks man among 19 men as part of a global bust of a child porn ring that allegedly shared the abuse images.
Australian Federal Police Acting Deputy Commissioner Operations Andrew Colvin said officers seized more than 15,000 videos and 500,000 child-abuse images during the 12-month investigation.
“The videos seized as part of the operation have to be among the worst we have seen,” Dep Comm Colvin said.
“Some depicted sexual abuse of children lasting more than two hours.”
He said the images and videos included the sexual abuse of children as young as one.
Dep Comm Colvin said the operation began in December after a tip from the Brazilian Federal Police.
Australian Federal Police executed 28 search warrants during the investigation.
“The viewing and exchanging of child abuse material will not be tolerated in Australian and the AFP, with its state, territory and international counterparts, will continue to fight this repulsive crime,” Dep Comm Colvin said.
A federal police spokesperson said officers arrested the 40-year-old on September 25 and charged him with using a carriage service to make child pornography material and with possession of child pornography.
He will appear in Geelong Magistrate’s Court on January 30.
