January to light up with city night markets

Jessica Benton
NIGHT owls and shopping enthusiasts will descend on Geelong’s Johnstone Park this summer for a new series of night markets.
Central Geelong Marketing executive officer Emma Clarke said the park would be abuzz with stalls covering everything from local wineries and artisans to live entertainment and food.
The markets would showcase both regional delights and cuisines from around the world, she said.
The markets would be modelled on famous Suzuki night markets at Melbourne’s Queen Victoria Market.
“It’s not just an arts and craft market, it’s a night out. The night markets are about food but also heavily based on entertainment,” Ms Clarke said.
“They’ll showcase the best of the Geelong region. There’ll be ready-to-eat multicultural food, a bar area, young fashion designers and artists, a health and harmony area, regional food producers and live entertainment.”
Ms Clarke said Central Geelong Marketing was calling for expressions of interest from traders and business operators who wanted to showcase their wares and services.
Prospective stall holders can phone Central Geelong Marketing on 5272 4841 or Queen Victoria Market on 9320 5829. The Geelong night markets will run 5.30pm to 10pm Fridays during January.
