Bridge bypass to Guy’s office

OBJECTORS to a proposed bridge at Clifton Springs have asked Planning Minister Matthew Guy to visit the site and meet petitioners, according to a lead objector.
John Boland said 864 residents surrounding Bayshore Avenue and Kewarra Drive wanted Mr Guy to see first-hand how the bridge to a new residential estate would affect their properties.
Mr Boland said residents had bypassed council to seek Mr Guy’s intervention.
He believed recent communication with the office meant a decision “soon”.
“We weren’t given a timeframe but I’m optimistic because we’ve detected a fair amount of sympathy.
“We’ve requested he come to the area and view the streets and where the bridge would go so that he can see how ridiculous it is.”
Mr Boland said residents were concerned the bridge would direct “hundreds” of vehicles through their streets daily.
“Our area isn’t designed to cope with that amount of traffic.
“After years of debate we decided to bypass council and go directly to State Government to sort this out.”
Residents thought they had defeated the Griggs Creek bridge proposal in 2008 with a 244-signature petition. But Mr Boland said they were “surprised” when the plan was revived earlier this year.
Mr Guy had not returned the Independent’s call for comment before the paper went to press on Wednesday.
