Trees falling
Trees will fall across the Geelong region to ensure safety from electrical accidents, Powercor has warned.
The company said new regulations had introduced “different clearance requirements” and increased trimming requirements for trees threatening public safety and supply disruptions.

Maccas confusion
Two misguided objections will cost Geelong’s council additional time and money to “tidy up” a McDonald’s planning application.
A council report said the objectors wrongly assumed City Hall wanted to sell parkland to McDonald’s North Geelong but one refused to withdraw and council was unable to contact the other, forcing the plan to an independent panel.

Kayaker rescued
Police have winched a missing kayaker to safety near Indented Head.
Police said the man in his 50s left Elwood to paddle towards Portsea last Friday morning but struck trouble in a shipping channel near Portarlington before calling for help.

Cruises increase
Geelong is set to host seven cruise ship visits in 2015, up four on initial expectations.
Councillor Ron Nelson said the increase underlined the importance of developing a new Yarra St pier to berth cruise ships, creating 522 full-time jobs.
