Two dead in accidents at Stonehaven, Swan Bay

A GEELONG West man has died in hospital following a two-car collision at Stonehaven yesterday.

Investigators believe that a grey Honda was travelling east along the Hamilton Highway when the driver lost control.

The vehicle veered to the right, colliding with an oncoming Mazda sedan, around 6.30pm.

The sole occupant of the Honda was an 20-year-old Geelong West man.

He was airlifted to Melbourne with significant injuries and died in the following hours.

The male driver of the Mazda sedan suffered minor injuries.

Police will prepare a report for the State coroner.

In a second fatal accident, a woman died at Swan Bay yesterday.

It is believed a Honda sedan was travelling along Swan Bay Road when it collided with a truck at the intersection of Portarlington-Queenscliff Road just before 3pm.

The sedan then crashed into a power pole.

The female driver, and sole occupant of the sedan, died at the scene and is yet to be formally identified.

The male driver of the truck has been taken to the Geelong hospital with minor injuries.

Anyone who witnessed either collision is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential crime report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au

Provisional road toll: 2015 – 9; 2014 – 5.
