Two of Geelong’s largest institutions are “big winners” from Malcolm Turnbull’s Innovation Agenda, according to a local MP who helped him topple former Prime Minister Tony Abbott.
Liberal Corangamite MP Sarah Henderson said Deakin University and the CSIRO’s Geelong operations would benefit from the agenda’s extra funding for research.
“The CSIRO Innovation Fund and the CSIRO Accelerator Program will provide researchers with the support they need to develop their ideas, test them and take them to the market.
“With CSIRO’s Australian Animal Health Laboratory and its manufacturing research facility based in Geelong, this presents our region with very substantial opportunities,” Ms Henderson said.
“The Federal Government is also driving greater research-industry collaboration by introducing new research block grant funding arrangements for universities including Deakin University that will give equal emphasis to success in industry and other end-user engagement and to research quality.
“The Innovation Agenda will drive business growth, increase entrepreneurship and forge closer links between research and industry for Corangamite.”
