Police quell Belmont explosion fears

DOZENS of police descended on a Belmont street when a man reportedly threatened to blow up himself and his house on Wednesday.
“We had concerned for a male in Batman Close to do self-harm from information we received but he wasn’t on the premises,” Acting Senior Sergeant Nick Uerbergang told the Independent.
“We were able to gain access to the premises but it was a little bit tricky.
“The Critical Incident Response team from Melbourne was in attendance and with its skills was able to access the building and determine place safe.”
The incident occurred about 2.30pm Wednesday and involved some 30 police, paramedics and firefighters.
