North SKAART Carnival young at heart

Northern Geelong’s 10th annual SKAART Carnival this weekend will be the “biggest event ever”, according to its ward councillor.
Patrons could expect activities including a mega shark slide, a silent disco, aerosol art and skate, scoot and BMX competitions at the “huge community celebration”, Cr Kylie Fisher said.
“SKAART offers exciting and unique activities all designed to celebrate young people and bring the local community together for a free family day out,” she said.
A committee of young people organises SKAART each year to unite Geelong’s northern suburbs communities.
“SKAART has become a much-loved and anticipated event for the northern suburbs of Geelong and the young people are so proud to be able to organise this event for their community,” Cr Fisher said.
Organisers expected to host around 1600 patrons, she said.
“Each year SKAART goes from strength to strength and this year we’re expecting the biggest event ever.”
Other attractions would include Dazzling Dan the magician, smoothies, an Afghan chai kana tea tent, multicultural food and various community stalls, Cr Fisher said.
She praised volunteers as “critical in the event’s success”.
“I’d like to thank the fantastic volunteers who give their time each year and help the event run smoothly and of course the Corio Community Sporting Club who will be cooking and serving barbecue food throughout the carnival.”
City Hall’s youth development unit provides the committee with support to stage the event.
The alcohol and drug free SKAART Carnival runs 11am to 3pm Sunday at Stead Park, Corio.
