Interim to permanent: Geelong City’s new chief

Geelong council’s interim chief has been appointed to the role permanently.
Kelvin Spiller had been acting as interim chief executive officer since 23 June following the resignation of the previous head Dr Gillian Miles.
Mayor Darryn Lyons said he was delighted Mr Spiller had applied for the ongoing position, and congratulated him on beating an impressive field of prospective candidates vying for the top job.
“Our Council has now completed a rigorous and transparent five month recruitment process to find the best person to lead our organisation, and Kelvin Spiller ticked all the right boxes in terms of skill, knowledge, experience, and runs on the board,” Cr Lyons said.
“Kelvin holds a Masters in Management from RMIT, backed by an extraordinary record of achievement as a CEO in the local government, corporate and not-for-profit sectors in Queensland and Victoria.
“He is also a very experienced business coach and mentor and has already had a significant and positive impact on our Council in the short time he’s been with us.
“But it’s no secret Kelvin will have his work cut out for him, especially as we roll out our response to the Halliday review and lead major cultural change across our entire organisation.”
Cr Lyons said the City would now hold confidential discussions with Mr Spiller to finalise his contract of employment.
Mr Spiller was expected to continue without interruption as the City’s new permanent CEO.
