Cats defender Harry Taylor still has a bottle of cognac he bought after the 2011 Grand Final which he hopes to open after his next premiership.
“That’s still tucked away ready to go,” he said ahead of his 200th game this weekend.
“I’m getting thirsty, if you like, and I’d love to be able to taste it.”
But he knew the Cats must improve if he was to taste premiership glory again.
“When we’re good we’re very good and average is pretty average.”
Despite the Cats’ inconsistent year, Taylor remained proud of his years with the club.
“I feel like I’m part of the furniture.”
Then at university in Western Australia, Taylor said he was asleep when Bomber Thompson first called him ahead of the 2007 draft.
“I woke the next day and had 84 missed calls on my phone.”
Taylor said he learnt from continually “hanging around” former star Cats defenders Matthew Scarlett, Tom Harley and Darren Milburn.
“It probably hit the point of stalking.”
