THE Environment Protection Authority is expected to issue Viva Energy’s Geelong refinery with a compliance notice requiring the company to provide its sulphur dioxide emissions data for the year to date.
On 28 May, Viva notified EPA that its SO2 emissions were likely to breach its licence conditions.
EPA said it would analyse the data provided and could issue further notices, and if necessary, undertake sanctions to hold Viva to account for its environmental obligations.
Viva posted a community notification on its website showing its 2015 licence non-compliances currently under review.
The notice said Viva sought to operate the Geelong refinery in an environmentally sustainable manner.

Given our commitment to Goal Zero, the Geelong Refinery is focused on minimising environment risk by:
. Operating under an Environment Licence issued by the Environment Protection Authority Victoria.
. Maintaining an environmental management system that is independently accredited by SAI Global to the international environmental management standard ISO14001 on an annual basis.
. Engaging with stakeholders including Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPAV) and the community. As part of this engagement, environmental matters are discussed at the quarterly Community Advisory Panel meetings.
Viva said its environment program at the refinery covered five major areas: Air quality, water management, waste management, soil and ground water, noise and odour.
