Geelong punter Tom Hornsey missed out on being selected in the seven rounds of the NFL draft in New York this week.
Only one punter was selected during the draft, which showcases the best available talent from American college football.
Hornsey had a standout career with the University of Memphis, winning the Ray Guy award as the best college punter in the US.
But it still wasn’t enough to land him a draft pick.
This year’s NFL draft held a deep vein of talent, with NFL teams choosing key position offensive and defensive players. It is not unusual for specialist single-position players like punters to be overlooked in the draft, only to be selected later as undrafted players.
Hornsey is still expected to be picked up by an NFL team in the days after the draft.
