A PROGRAM offering respite weekends for children with complex medical needs has celebrated its fifth birthday.
Gateways Support Services’ Sue Moore said Boost 4 Kids offered full weekends away for children with complex medical needs, allowing families much-needed respite.
The program’s St Laurence-owned Boost 4 Kids house at Ocean Grove housed up to half a dozen children six times a year with trained care workers and paediatric nurses, she said.
“It’s quite intense looking after these kids because they need a lot of attention. Just a couple of weekends away a year for the parents is a real blessing.”
Ms Moore said Boost 4 Kids was the brainchild of local mother Kerrie Quirk.
“She had a child with complex medical needs and there wasn’t much support in the area at that time.”
