Latest technology has delivered a new level of care for premature and ill babies in the region, according to Geelong’s St John of God Hospital.
Chief executive officer Stephen Roberts unveiled the equipment when he launched the hospital’s refurbished special care nursery on Wednesday.
Mr Roberts said the nursery’s technology was “not previously found in a regional hospital”.
The “state-of-the-art” nursery had ranked the private hospital as the nation’s premier neonatal facility outside metropolitan Melbourne, he said.
The hospital’s staff cared for more than 200 of the region’s ill and premature babies each year.
“St John of God Hospital Geelong is proud to continue its commitment to deliver excellence in care to the Geelong community,” Mr Roberts said.
“It is thanks to the Geelong community that we’ve been able to fit our nursery with equipment not previously found in a regional hospital.”
Geelong Mayor John Mitchell officially opened the facility on Wednesday night.
Cr Mitchell donated half of the proceeds from his charity performance at last month’s Great Moscow Circus toward the refurbishment.
“St John of God Hospital plays a crucial role in the Geelong community and we are proud to support them as they develop and expand their services,” he said.
“The refurbishment special care nursery will allow the fantastic staff at St John of God to continue providing a high standard of service using the latest facilities and equipment.”
