Masked gunman robs Newcomb bank

By PAUL MILLAR

A MASKED gunman robbed the Westpac Bank in Newcomb today after threatening the female teller with a handgun.

Detective Senior Sergeant Rod Lloyd said the man, who covered his face during the robbery, entered the bank at 11.40 this morning.

“He held up one of the tellers, demanded money and  was given it, he then left the bank and went around the corner,’’ the detective said.

The gunman is described as solidly built and wearing a long-sleeved top at the time of the robbery.

The shopping strip was busy at the time and police have called for any witnesses to call them.

Detectives will examine CCTV footage of the robbery.

The Armed offenders Squad travelled down from Melbourne to take charge of the case.
