Call to fix bus service ‘mistake’

A campaign to win back an hourly bus service on the Bellarine Peninsula has reached state parliament.
Western Victoria MP Simon Ramsay urged the State Government in the Upper House on Wednesday to “fix its mistake”.
Northern peninsula residents have stepped up their campaign for reinstatement of the hourly service to Portarlington, St Leonards and Indented Head, collecting more than 2300 signatures on a petition.
Mr Ramsay told Transport Minister Jacinta Allan that timetable changes had left commuters stranded on the peninsula.
“There is no rail, no water taxis – just buses for public transport,” he said.
“The minister has seen fit to ignore the many complaints and calls for change, despite Public Transport Victoria’s regional community development planning meetings clearly showing that bus users were unhappy with the new timetables and routes.
“A petition with more than 2300 signatures has so far been ignored, despite clearly demonstrating the community’s frustration over the changes.
“The action I seek from the minister is to return the St Leonard-Portarlington bus service to an hourly service to meet the needs of the Bellarine community.”
