Geothermal energy could help tear down the region’s only coal-fired power plant, according to Friends of the Earth.
The environmental organisation said a successful trial of a geothermal plant near Anglesea could make Alcoa’s brown coal plant redundant.
Friends of the Earth’s Cam Walker said Alcoa’s agreement to operate the station expired in 2011.
