Lib concedes ‘most-marginal’ seat

LIBERAL candidate Sarah Henderson has conceded defeat with the observation that Corangamite is now “arguably” Australia’s most-marginal federal seat.
Ms Henderson issued a statement congratulating Labor’s Darren Cheeseman on holding the seat about a week after he claimed victory. Her statement was also about an hour after federal independents Tony Windsor and Rob Oakshott announced they would help Labor into office.
Ms Henderson said Corangamite recorded a .44 per cent swing to the Liberals, who outscored Labor on primary votes in the seat.
“With a margin of .4 per cent, this result arguably makes Corangamite the most marginal seat in Australia before the upcoming federal electoral redistribution in Victoria.”
The Independent reported last week that Deakin politics Professor Geoffrey Robinson expected the redraw of boundaries to favour the Liberals at the next federal election.
