City lights to shine in CBD

GEELONG’S city centre will light up in a mid-winter flash display of light and colour this Friday evening.

Catenary lights at the Malop/Moorabool intersection will be turned on at 6.30pm. Eleven food trucks will be open until 7pm with a band playing in Lt Malop St and Central Geelong Marketing walking about with special giveaways.

Mayor Darryn Lyons said Geelong would now have its own lighting system that will complement special events like Christmas, footy finals as well as provide general street decoration.

“We can paint the town pink during breast cancer awareness month, go green for St Patrick’s Day and hold dance parties by syncing the lights to music,” he said.

“Creating a more vibrant CBD is a real passion of mine and the light and decorate installation of catenary lights will support the local traders and encourage more people to visit the heart of our city.”

Nearby cafes will be open late, giving away samples of their finest foods at the catenary launch as part of Central Geelong Marketing’s Pop In Project.
