Budding musician Pat Doolan can’t wait to unveil his band’s debut album in front of industry professionals at this year’s Push FReeZA Summit.
The Anglesea rocker is among dozens of young musicians and event organisers expected to attend the 12th annual event at Torquay.
Designed to give amateur artists a head start in the music business, the youth summit offers free event management training as well as providing opportunities to rub shoulders with industry leaders.
“I’m looking forward to making some connections that will help us take the band further,” Pat said.
“We’ve also got heaps of free CDs to give away – it’s a great chance to get our music out there.”
After an impressive game of Singstar at a friend’s party, Pat was invited to join Anglesea’s The Underhanded alongside bassist Ian Hawkins, guitarist Cory Balloch and drummer Jarrah Taylor.
“I was the best so they asked me to sing vocals,” the 16-year-old told the Independent.
“I’ve been involved for about a year and a half now – we really just play because we love playing.
“We play a few gigs around Geelong but I’d love to get up to Melbourne.”
Push FReeZA Summit director Shane Wickens urged interested youths to circle July 1 on their calendar.
“The event is open to all young people aged 12 to 25,” he said.
Mr Wickens said the summit was a “great networking opportunity”.
“We’re bringing all the players together under the one roof and will be giving advice on how to run events and get sponsorship.” The 2010 Push FReeZA Summit will be held at Torquay’s Children’s Services Hub.
