Public talks over racing

Fears of traffic chaos for residents and businesses have gone on the table in a series of public meetings about an international cycling event in Geelong later this year.
UCI Road World Champion-ships organisers said they had joined City Hall staff and police this week in hosting the meetings as part of a “community consultation” process.
The organisers expect hundreds of thousands of cycling fans to descend on Geelong for racing from September 28 to October 3. Residents and businesses have both welcomed the event and expressed concern about its impact on movement and trade.
The race down Moorabool Street and though Geelong West, Newtown and Eastern Park will force closure of roads and driveways for extended periods.
The organisers said the public meetings would be at Barrabool Hills Baptist Church on Wednesday, Skilled Stadium on June 23 and twice at Geelong’s City Hall on July 5.
