Coles launches Independent children’s ward fundraiser

Alex de Vos
Grocery giant Coles is using today’s Independent in a fundraising drive to support a new children’s ward at Geelong Hospital.
Coles regional manager Brian McDonald said the store would donate $5 from every $100 on grocery bills toward the $7.3 million facelift.
He urged shoppers to get behind this long weekend’s fundraising drive.
“All you need to do is cut out the voucher in this week’s Independent, fill up your trolley and present the voucher to the registry staff,” Mr McDonald said.
“Then we’ll donate $5 out of your grocery bill to the Geelong Hospital.”
Mr McDonald said the campaign was the store’s way of giving back to the community.
“I think it’s a needy cause,” he said.
“At the hospital’s gala festival last year we raised $11,000 toward the hospital and we’d like to raise some more.”
Mr Mcdonald said Coles would operate two merchandise stalls outside the company’s Geelong West and Leopold supermarkets on Saturday to coincide with the fundraiser.
He encouraged shoppers to dig deep in the name of charity.
“Every little bit helps,” he said.
The voucher will be valid at Coles’ stores in Leopold, Waurn Ponds, Westfield Geelong, Ocean Grove, Belmont, Corio and Geelong West.
The voucher and more information about the fundraising campaign is on page six of this week’s Independent.
