FINALLY FRIDAY: Fanning’s city show

By MICHELLE HERBISON

AUSTRALIAN rock royalty Bernard Fanning will play Geelong’s Costa Hall on 10 August, the former Powderfinger front-man has announced.
Following the release of his first single, Battleships, from his second solo album, Departures, Fanning will grace Australian stages with handpicked special guests Big Scary and Vance Joy.
“I can’t wait to get out into the wide brown land with a new batch of tunes and a new band,” Fanning said.
“This new album is much more energetic so it’s going to make for a really dynamic show when paired with the stuff from Tea & Sympathy.”
The Departures Tour marks Fanning’s highly anticipated return to stage since Powderfinger’s 2010 Farewell Tour that attracted repeat sell-outs across the country.
Melbourne’s Big Scary received rapturous welcome from fans and critics with singles Phil Collins, Luck Now and Vacation.
Big Scary will release second album Not Art on 28 June.
Vance Joy is developing a following at home and abroad, with his single Riptide ranked most popular song on international blog aggregator Hype Machine and attracting 180,000 plays on Soundcloud in just one month.
Tickets go on sale midday this Friday.
