NORTH Geelong continued its unbeaten run to win Geelong Soccer Cup on the weekend 4-0.
Cup tournament liaison officer Russell Butler said the Warriors earned a “ripper win” over a determined Geelong outfit in Friday night’s grand final.
“North showed they were more skillful players on the day,” he said.
“There’s a lot of pride at stake to be the top dog in Geelong and it was a great game to watch.”
The Warriors play in division one in the north-west competition, while Geelong is in division two.
Butler said the pre-season cup was a great opportunity for Geelong to size up the standard of the teams it would face if it earned a spot in the state-wide competition alongside the Warriors next season.
In Geelong cup games, Corio and Surf Coast battled it out for third and fourth spot respectively in perfect conditions.
A hungry Corio side dominated the game to win 3–0.
Butler said he was looking forward to the 2012 return of the inter-league competition despite this year’s cup getting off to a rocky start with sponsorship issues.
