Police identify dead Corio man, bonnet victim released

ERIN PEARSON
POLICE have identified a man fatally stabbed in Corio last weekend as 32-year-old Sidney Thorpe.
Homicide Detective Senior Sergeant Stephen McIntyre said Mr Thorpe had been staying with relatives in Whittington only a few days before his alleged murder.
He was found with stab wounds to his chest at a Buffalo Ave house on December 3.
Police said ambulance crews worked on Mr Thorpe but he died at the scene.
Homicide detectives charged Corio’s Gordon Williams, 36, with Mr Thorpe’s murder earlier this week.
Mr Williams was remanded in custody following a court hearing on Tuesday.
He will reappear in Geelong Magistrates Court in April.
Meanwhile, a St Albans man critically injured after falling from a car bonnet in Newtown has left hospital.
An Alfred Hospital spokesperson said doctors downgraded his condition to stable before releasing him this week.
The 38-year-old man was flown to Melbourne from Geelong Hospital last Friday night.
Police said the car he was riding on travelled a short distance before hitting a gutter, throwing him head-first into the ground.
Police questioned the 37-year-old driver, also from St Albans, over the incident.
Police asked witnesses to phone Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
