THE REGION’S Buddhist community now has a spectacular spring garden thanks to Geelong Interfaith Network.
The network’s volunteers gave the 20-hectare grounds of Drol Kar Buddhist Centre, near Anglesea, a facelift last weekend.
Network spokesman Randall Apps said the working bee attracted 45 eager gardeners and helpers.
“Lots of work was carried out by our team. Among their activities were tree lopping, pruning, weeding and general garden and landscape maintenance.”
Mr Apps said the Buddhists were delighted with the contributions by people of many faiths.
Geelong Interfaith Network formed 10 years ago in the wake of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
The network aims to bring together people of different faiths in an atmosphere of tolerance, understanding and acceptance.
The network counts Christians, Jews, muslims, Buddhists and Hindus among its members.
The Network’s next major event will be at Cunningham Pier on October 19 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the deaths of 353 asylum seekers who died when their overcrowded boat sank near Christmas Island.
“Flowers will be thrown into the water”, Mr Apps said, “one for every victim”.
