Wave of opportunity for disabled

Surfing and wheelchairs usually have little in common but Disabled Surfers Association will help bridge the gap on the Bellarine Peninsula.
The volunteer-run organisation plans to open a branch at Barwon Heads after operating at other beaches around Australia for 23 years.
The Barwon Heads branch would be Victoria’s first.
Association secretary Jim Bradley said the organisation helped disabled people not only enjoy the beach but ride waves.
“We’re trying to get disabled people to experience the feeling of going for a surf,” he said.
“It’s all about putting smiles on dials. We’re putting fun, acceptance and inclusion back into people’s lives.”
Mr Bradley said the association would run a public meeting in the next few months to “test the water” among volunteers and participants.
