Motlop cops off-field club suspension

By JOHN VAN KLAVEREN

Cats’ speedster Stephen Motlop is under a one week club-imposed suspension for an off-field indiscretion, coach Chris Scott announced this afternoon at his weekly media conference.
Motlop was one of Geelong’s better players against Hawthorn in Easter Monday’s blow-out 62 point loss.
He will miss Geelong’s big clash against Fremantle on Sunday.
Scott said the suspension was a heavy penalty for the cub as well as the player.
He declined to say what the incident was.
“We’ve got some expectations at our footy club that need to be met by all our players and Steve hasn’t met those.
“The team and Steve will pay a big penalty this week.
“We have clear expectations of all our players. There’s no grey area. Steve hasn’t been able to meet those on this occasion.
“To his credit he acknowledges it, he admits it and is prepared to take his right whack.
“We’re really happy with the way Steve’s responded in the aftermath and we’re positive that this is going to have a good outcome for the whole club and for Steve.”
His suspension includes the VFL as well.
