THE CARAVAN influx to Geelong and the Surf Coast each summer usually terminates at a beachside resort – not on top of a pub.
For the past month, passersby along Belmont’s High Street have been bemused by the caravan on the local pub’s rooftop terrace.
Belmont Hotel publican Belinda Shaw installed the van by crane after a brainwave to provide food iN similar fashion to the caravan outlets at festivals and fetes and popular across Melbourne in recent times.
“It’s not up and running yet,” Ms Shaw told the Independent yesterday.
“We’re hoping to do a street food of a Sunday, something like that, along with some music and cheap drinks – create a bit of atmosphere up there.
“It’s only small van, a 10-foot old style job, and been fitted out on the inside as a little mini-kitchen where the back window and side window will open up,” she said.
Hardly the spot for camping out, you’d think. But then again …

A WEARY worker from Lovely Banks put his foot in it while driving along the Princes Highway at Avalon this week.
Highway patrol officers did a double-take after a Ford Territory passed them. The relaxed driver had both feet on the dashboard and was in cruise control.
The 55-year-old was fined $221 for failing to have full control of his vehicle.
His lame excuse: his legs were sore from working all day.

IT’S NO secret that a new workers club boozer is setting up taps in Geelong but the location has been a closely guarded secret.
Websites, social media posts and water-cooler chatter are suggesting everywhere from the historic Griffiths bookstore on Ryrie St to new digs near the strip club at the rear to Pako’s St George workers club — even the old Newtown Working Men’s Club on Skene St.

AND VALE Cats great Ron Hovey who departed this world this week at age 82 after 64 years service with the club. For all his sterling on and off-field performances, his gentle humour was always a winner as the video of Ron posted by the club this week clearly shows.
