THE issue of politicians and councillors (same thing, really) living in their electorates has been a long-standing and thorny issue but one politician sought to change the tone of the debate this week.
Western Victoria MP Simon Ramsay claimed in parliament that none of the recent Barwon Water board appointees lived in the region.
“For reasons known only to (Environment) Minister (Lisa Neville) not one new board member at Barwon Water is from the Barwon Water catchment area – in fact all of them live in metropolitan Melbourne,” he proclaimed.
But a quick look at the list showed several obvious locals from new chair Jo Plummer to G21 chief Elaine Carbines and returning members Jodi Heath and the TAC’s Rebecca Leonard.
At least we know Simon lives in his electorate – he covers Western Victoria, stretching from here to the South Australian border.
A pair of entrepreneurs operating in the Geelong region took self-promotion to immodest new levels this week.
They were warmly praised as a finalist for an obscure industry award, whose logo appeared at the top of a media release gushing about the pair in third person.
They were a “creative and talented duo”, it said, delivering a “sense of style and sophistication”.
The awards were apparently “pleased to announce” the pair’s product was a category finalist.
But the awards didn’t send the release. So it could only have come from one other source.
At least our dynamic duo is well-stocked with self-regard.
