POLICE are investigating a violent attack on an Ocean Grove man last weekend.
A 34-year-old man sustained a deep cut from his temple to the back of his ear after he was slashed across the head with a broken beer bottle.
The assault was around midnight on Saturday at Ocean Grove’s Zebra Crossing bar.
A police spokesperson said officers believed that two local men had an altercation on the dance floor before the victim was “glassed”.
An off-duty police officer at the bar witnessed the attack.
He followed the alleged assailant from the hotel onto the street before other police officers joinedhim and arrested a 24-year-old man after a short foot chase, the police spokesperson said.
Bellarine Police Senior Constable John Dunstan, who attended the scene, said police had interviewed the 24-year-old.
“The investigation is still ongoing and no formal charges have been laid yet,” he said.
