Charity ball in your jim-jams

It’s the event to have when not having an event.
The Karingal Foundation has come up with a quirky twist on a fundraiser in the depths of winter when no one wants to get dressed up and brave the cold, rain and wind to go out.
But they still hope the non-event will raise plenty of dollars as non-attendees pay for the privilege of staying at home.
“The Rotary Club of Geelong East and the Karingal Foundation are delighted to announce that the Winter Ball will not be held in Geelong on 25 June,” declared the non-invitation.
Uninvited guests were still invited to make a donation from $15 all the way to the equivalent of a table of 10 absent partygoers.
The concept raises all sorts of metaphysical questions such as if a gala is organised but no one comes, does everyone still have a ball?
But organisers hope the warm fuzzy feeling of knowing the funds will go towards building the outdoor area of the Eastern Hub Geelong will be sufficient.
Karingal Foundation executive officer Caroline Moore said the Winter Ball was the perfect way to enjoy a quiet night in.
“People lead busy lives these days and with overflowing social calendars, this non-event is an opportunity to support a worthy cause without all the hassle,” she said.
“You can be rugged up on the couch on 25 June knowing you don’t have to venture out to an event because you’ve already played your part in giving back to the community.”
