Judges select 15 finalists in quest to find our best talent

Fifteen of the region’s most talented young performers have earned judges’ approval to win their way into the grand final of the region’s premier annual talent quest.
The performers will compete for cash and other prizes in the annual Powercor Star Search at Deakin University’s Waterfront Campus Costa Hall on May 15.
Judges selected 15 grand finalists for both vocal and instrumental categories over three nights of auditions and heats.
Grand finalists in the vocal category are Emily Donoghue, Ben Franklin, Kerryn and Bridie O’Sullivan, Tara Vagg, Elise Vogrin, Caleb Vines and Jessie Upton. Instrumental grand finalists are Anna Ballinger, David Bowden, Callum Hicks, Eda Kaynak, Adrian King, Jamie Rodden and Christian College’s brass quintet and saxophone quartet
Star Search organiser Bill Rush said selecting the finalists was always tough.
“The judges are always impressed by the pool of talent in the region,” Mr Rush said.
“This year the calibre of vocalists and instrumentalists was stunning.”
Mr Rush said he urged family, friends and anyone who enjoyed a night out to cheer on the performers at Costa Hall.
“As well as supporting top local talent, you’ll also enjoy a fantastic night of entertainment,” he said.
Tickets are still available for the Rotary Club of Highton event.
Tickets are available from Rotary by phoning 5229 1626 or Geelong Performing Arts Centre on 5225 1200.
Tickets cost $20 each, $15 for concession card holders and $55 for a family.
The Independent sponsors Star Search.
