A VACANT shop in Geelong’s mall will receive a temporary lease of life while it houses a quirky piece of wall art that passers-by can add to.
As part of the #soyouknowgeelong campaign the wall art, at the former Banjos bakery, invited people to write their thoughts about acceptable behaviour in shared spaces on post-it notes.
The contributions will be used to create posters and signs for the mall space and for distribution to local schools.
A City spokesperson said the activity was based on the work of renowned Taiwanese-American artist Candy Chang who created interactive public installations to engage the public in broad social issues.
The wall art activity aims to engage young people, mall users and traders to start a discussion around what is socially acceptable behaviour in shared spaces such as Geelong Mall.
“It encourages people to take ownership of their actions by talking about what they do and why,” the spokesperson said.
The activity runs until Friday when listening posts and roaming vox pops will capture people’s thoughts on behave in public area behaviour.
