Three people posed as RSPCA inspectors to steal 15 beloved beagle puppies from a Lara backyard last month.
Police are appealing for public help to find the scent of the thieves, releasing an image of one of the beagle puppies in the hope that someone may recognise them.
Police have been told a man and two women posing as RSPCA officers attended a house on Buckingham Street, Lara, about noon on 23 March.
The trio told the owner they were investigating a report of animal cruelty and removed the puppies from the back garden.
It is believed five of the puppies of the litter were microchipped.
Corio police have no leads at this stage and are keen to speak to any witnesses.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or file a confidential report at crimestoppers.com.au
