IT’S official now the writing’s on the … err, pavement.
Free parking in Geelong’s CBD, an issue which galvanised ratepayers behind the public election of two mayors, the ill-fated Keith Fagg and now Darryn Lyons, is finally coming into place.
Admittedly, it’s only a trial at this point, but the free weekend car parking has become a reality 14 months after Mr Fagg was the first popularly-elected Geelong mayor but less than two months after Cr Lyons took the city’s reins.
Brightly coloured yellow and hot pink signs, not unlike Cr Lyons coiffure, are now adorning the city centre alerting motorists to their belated good fortune.
