‘Brighter’ future for Fyans Park kinder

By Luke Voogt

Greater Geelong Council officially re-opened Fyans Park Kindergarten this week following a $1.2 million redevelopment of the centre.
The city’s Community Life acting general manager Tim Hellsten said the extension and refurbishment had more than doubled the capacity of the centre.
The larger learning environment would cater for an additional 66 children, he said.
“The refurbishment of the building will inject a new lease of life into existing facilities.”
Mr Hellsten said early childhood studies showed a link between high-quality preschool programs and “bright futures”.
“So the city is investing heavily in kindergartens and early childhood programs.”
The council provided $836,000 for the development, while the State Government contributed $350,000.
Mr Hellsten acknowledged the kindergarten’s staff, parents and committee of management contribution to the redevelopment.
Geelong MP Christine Couzens was at the re-opening of the Fyans Park Kindergarten on Wednesday, along with members of its committee of management.
