Cats 500 short of membership target amid works

GEELONG Football Club is 500 members from reaching its 2012 target of 40,000, according to a spokesperson.
The Cats reached 39,456 members this week, up 206 on the same time last year.
Cats consumer business manager Craig Armstead said the club had already reached its budgetary target of 38,400, with over 5000 new members joining in 2012.
The club’s initial goal was 1000 members less than last year because of stand redevelopment works at Simonds Stadium, he said.
“Because of the redevelopment we lost a number of seats for fans. It’s been a difficult year with the construction going on here.”
Mr Armstead said the Cats still hoped to reach their long-term target of 40,000 members before the end of the season.
Supporters could still buy 2012 memberships but would be ineligible for finals tickets, he said.
